it all began with a piano. ben started taking piano lessons at the tender age of 6, and he was pleasantly surprised at how easily it came to him. music was in his blood.
after 7 years of piano lessons, ben was ready for a new instrument. he picked up his dad's guitar and fell in love. ben found a new way to express his thoughts and feelings. with the creative juices flowing, ben began writing.
although the songs started simple musically and lyrically, ben was (and still is) always excited to share his songs with others. when he got his first computer, he quickly figured out how to record his music. soon after, he made his first few copies of see you there. in the next year, he finished the work for his first ep, a little you.
ben pushed his music to a new level in 2004 when he started a band, originally named "the ben palm band" until the name was changed to "impetus". during this time, he started sharing his music even more by playing more shows, entering a music showcase, recording a live album, and selling his cds at a local bookstore. it was during this time that he started returning to his musical roots, writing more songs on the piano.
two years later, ben fell in love and was newly inspired to write. he finished recording for... in early 2006 and gave it as a gift to his soon-to-be-wife laura. since then, laura has been an integral part of ben's music career. she is his biggest supporter.
while living in washington, ben got the opportunity to record some of his newer songs in a friend's studio. the songs ben recorded were all ones he had started playing in different pubs and coffeehouses in the seattle area. the album is titled the rebirth ep. it truly showcased a rebirth of ben's music - a new style and a new audience. this new direction away from the christian market opened new doors and possibilities for ben, which he pursued until he started a family.
after two kids and a four-year hiatus, ben picked up the guitar again, this time to write worship songs. he and his friend have since written multiple songs that are used regularly for worship at his church. you can listen to some of the tracks below.
